HAPPY FATHERS DAY DAD!!
I have to say I was blessed the the BEST Dad.
When I was growing up my Dad was ALWAYS there for all of his kids. I always knew my Dad enjoyed being with us. We went camping or boating every weekend and Dad always had some old motorcyles fixed up for us to have fun on. When I was in Jr. high and High school all I had to do is come home from school (on a weekday) and say "Dad, Will you take me and my friends water skiing?" and he would have the boat hooked up and ready to go before we could all get our suits on.
My Dad has got the funniest sense of humor and the most funniest personal stories of any I know. When I was in high school and after I met Ray, all of my friends and his friends always wanted to go to my parents house so they could "hang out" with my Dad. A common phrase I heard was "Your Dad is so cool" He has always been the life of the party. If you get him and his identical twin together, your in for real good time!
My Dad has a "sixth sense" for his kids. He always just knows if we need him and is there as quick as possible. For example- when my sister Meredith was having her twins she was in SLC and had been there for several weeks, well she had to go in for emergency surgery and everyone was in Vernal.. when Meredith had called home and my Dad found out.. unbeknownst to everyone there- he just took off- and made it to SLC in probably 2 hours right when Meredith and I were coming out of surgery. I think he was crying the whole way. Another example of more of this 6th sense was when we were all camping and in the middle of the night a huge wind storm came up, well me and Ray had our awning still up and it was about to rip off the trailer. I went out with Ray and was trying to hold down the rope of one side while he was doing the other, the wind was blowing so hard it was lifting me off the ground when it would catch the awning. It started thundering and raining and I couldn't even hear what Ray was trying to tell me do 10 feet away. All of a sudden my Dad was there next to me- thus taking over and again saving the day, but the weird thing is I have no idea how he knew I needed help. He said he just woke up in the night with the thought "Amy needs me." This is how my Dad has always been with his kids...This didn't work out so well though when we were trying to get away with anything either, just ask Jill about when she was sneaking back in one night and took about 20 minutes slowly opening the wood drop door, centimeter by centimeter, quiet as a mouse, just to see my Dad sitting on the either side watching.. or ask Ray when he was hiding in my closet (I have to add to this story for self defense.. I was in college and my parents dropped in and the old teenage instinct kicked in, I panicked and just because Ray was even IN my room I made him hide in the closet (much to his now regret and most embarrasing moment) and my Dad walked in, walked right to the closet, opened it, and said "Hi Ray, whatcha doing sittin in the closet? (chuckle, chuckle). I could go on and on..
Another thing about my Dad is willingness and Love, and really,I would almost say Passion, to help other people. He has done so much work for everyone I would have no idea how many hours he has spent helping people on their homes and projects, I know at least 1 night a week ever since Ive been born and usually if its a big project every night of the week.. This has also branched out through the years as he has found a love for emergency medical care also. He has been the commander of search and rescue.. hes not the commander now but he is still a volunteer and keeps up on his wilderness training ( about a week long cert every year) he is a EMT for Vernal and volunteers several days and nights a week.. he is one of the few who ALWAYS SAYS YES so in addition to taking ambulance calls he probably takes an ER transport to SLC about once a week, usually in the middle of the night, in a snowstorm, after working a 10 hour day with 5 hours of travel with his job...... I know, I know, it sounds like "I used to walk to school, 5 miles, up hill, both ways"... But it really is true. We could never go to Grandmas for Christmas without Dad having to stop to pull peoples cars out of the snow all the way there....so much so that he bought a winch for the front of the truck, just for this purpose. He has the biggest heart, he cannot stand to see a person in need... just ask Mom about the old man hitch hiker he brought home for dinner, gave $100 dollars and a bus pass to.
My Dad, like I said, has always been so much fun and cool- he never even went through that "my parents are old and not cool" phase.. he and my mom are still all of our number one couple all of us kids want to hang with..his schedule is always full. And believe it or not it is even continuing on with his grandkids. I overheard Brendan one day talking to his friends about his Grandpa it went something like this "Dude, ....my Grandpa is so AWESOME, you should like see him ride is 4-wheeler up these, like, rocks that go straight up, he has to go out in the middle of the night and drive over stuff like that to help find people who are lost and stuff...." All of kids adore him, his son-in-laws adore him ( I swear he's Rays best friend)and his grandchildren adore him.
Well I really could go on and on.. but I wanted to PROVE..... DON'T I HAVE THE MOST AWESOME DAD EVER!!
I LOVE YOU DAD... SO MUCH!!! THANKS FOR EVERTHING!!
